flying day!

This is an unusual trip, in that we're leaving New York early afternoon on a Saturday. Usually we seem to leave at 10pm or later on a Thursday, so weekend? Sunny afternoon? Bizarre! Since (a) my favorite treat is breakfast out and (b) Marc is too excited to sit still, we're going out for breakfast before we leave for Newark. The flight's kind of long, just to go to Mexico (says the native Texan, who still thinks it's just right over there); we fly to Houston, change planes and then head down to Oaxaca. It'll be dark when we finally get to our lovely hotel, which will look like this the following morning:

the patio, where I'm sure we'll sit and drink coffee
The next post will be live from Oaxaca -- I'm so thrilled about this trip!

flights

I always put our flight details here because I somehow end up needing them -- often just in retrospect, as I try to remember exactly when a previous trip took place. So here are our details to/from Oaxaca. In just 27 days:

yay, free frequent flyer tickets!

Where we'll be, specifically speaking

Eight days is a long time in Oaxaca, so we're considering flying down to the Pacific Coast, to Puerto Escondido, for a couple of days and one night. But while we're in Oaxaca, we'll be staying at the Hotel Parador San Miguel, which is charming and right in the thick of it all, a couple of blocks from the zocalo.

the beautiful central patio

There isn't a pool at the hotel, but there's a rooftop terrace with umbrellas and lounge chairs, so perhaps we'll get to relax in the sun, which means he'll get a glorious tan and I'll get a bit of a burn. :)

Where we'll be, generally speaking

In case you're unfamiliar with this part of Mexico, Oaxaca is slightly interior, below Mexico City, but toward the Pacific side:

it's Oaxaca City, in the state of Oaxaca

Here are a few sources of information about it, to hold us all over until we hit the ground June 9 (coming home June 17):

And just in case you don't know, pronounce it wa-HAH-kuh. Muy emocionados!
